Haiti generosity Print E-mail

We are so thankful for the geneosity of ORPAC Nazarenes.  The latest expression of this generosity can be seen in the many ways our churches and individuals are responding to the needs in Haiti following their devastating earthquake.  The following shows activity that we have heard about; there is likely more that has been done.

Bay Area has sent more than $2,100.

Canby raised $1,500, reportedly more than they have ever raised in a single impromptu offering.

Tillamook Pastor Sid Sever wrote the following:

Our people have been challenged to give through NCM and have been doing so, although I don't have numbers.  What I'm really excited to share is the work of Dr. Gene McColgin, a physician who attends our church and is planning a trip to Haiti from Feb. 24th through March 9th. This trip has actually been on the calendar for quite some time, however, because of the earthquake, the goal has changed from primarily treating disease and illness, to primarily treating injury and infection. I believe this will be Dr. McColgin's 4th trip to Haiti. Because he has such a heart for the Haitian people and the conditions they live with, he has formed his own foundation and so goes under the auspices of that foundation.  A number of our people have been contributing to support Dr. McColgin and his team.  Dr. McColgin's foundation can be found on the web @ vmfoundation.org.

West Salem Oasis NewStart sent $1,326

Ashland reports:

We have committed to sending a team. We have a list of 12 so far and have already set aside nearly $4000. We are planning a fundraiser called Hearts and Hands (I know, really original! Ha) for the 19th. We have also been giving directly to NCM Disaster Relief and put together a bunch of Crisis Care Kits that will soon be on their way!

"The WestSide Community Church in Klamath Falls just shipped off 70 lbs of supplies. We gave everyone one a list of needed supplies from the website (www.ncm.org). The following Sunday we spent time organizing and packing up all that was brought in. We gathered around the items and prayed God's blessing on the people who will receive them.

We have been praying and learning about Haiti and the history of the Church of the Nazarene in Haiti."

The children of Springfield Church held a Haiti Quake Bake Sale on February 14th.

Oakridge riased an offering of $1,100.

Oregon City raised $3,924.

Lapine raised in excess of $900 the Sunday following the quake.

Medford First reports: Our people gave over $4100 to the relief efforts.  We continue to send crisis care kits. We just had a couple, in late January , deliver over 20 boxes of CCKs to the Idaho warehouse for distribution.

Astoria Hilltop raised $155.

Roseburg Pastor Mark Bodenstab writes: "Roseburg Church on the Rise received and sent a love offering for over $3,200 the 2 weeks after the earthquake. They have also collected 90 Crisis Care Kits to send as soon as possible. The 5th and 6th graders of the church are now collecting cans and bottles and have already raised over $60 with more to go. Roseburg is currently planning a WW trip to Haiti in early 2011 to help rebuild with $10,000 in additional offerings."
